Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh program is an excellent way for young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to become active, passionate members of the community. Radford College offers students the opportunity to participate on a voluntary basis.
In the program, students take up a challenge in a field they are interested in. It may be sporting, academic or community centred; each is unique to the student.
There are four components of the award which must be completed:
- Skills
- Service
- Adventurous journeys
- Residential projects.
Students are provided with an Award Leader who offers them guidance and advice as they pursue these components.
It is a challenging program but participants say that it is extremely rewarding as it builds their resilience and their sense of self. They feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in achieving a goal centred on their interests.
