Sumie Japanese Ink Painting
By Ms Michele Sharp, Head of Languages
Are you interested in both art and Japanese? Sumie is Japanese ink painting, but many people find it to be like a type of meditation as it is also very relaxing. It is very easy to do, and you can become proficient quickly.
Literally meaning ‘ink picture’, Sumie uses simple brush strokes to create works of art. This art form is believed to have come to Japan from China and was regularly practised by monks. Different shades and tones are created through the process of watering down the sumi (ink).
Sumie cocurricular for Years 7-12 take place every Friday from 3.45 - 5.00 pm in Bla08 and you can register using the online registration form named Community, Culture and Environment on Nexus. The cost is $60 per term.
