World's Greatest Shave
By Talia Shevchenko, Year 12

The World’s Greatest Shave is one of the biggest and most anticipated events for Year 12 students. taking place this year during lunchtime on the 17th and 18th of March.
The shave raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation, supporting Aussie families dealing with blood cancer nationwide.
Cancer has affected many in this cohort. An astounding 42 students – plus the Head of Year, Ms Hunter – participated in the Greatest Shave by shaving, cutting or colouring their hair. Countless more jumped at the opportunity to support the cause by supplying shavers, food for the bake sale, snags and a large speaker for music. Principal Fiona Godfrey tried her hairdressing skills on College Captain Patrick Walker.
Our goal was to raise $45,000. As a collective, Radford’s Year 12 cohort smashed this goal and raised a total of $56,073. One particularly outstanding fundraiser was Tamsin Van Gorp, who individually raised almost $10,000.
This year, our enthusiastic Year 12s attracted the attention of WIN News, who interviewed Ms Hunter and a couple of students. WIN captured the excitement of the day and further spread awareness of this great cause. An ambassador for the World’s Greatest Shave also made a surprise appearance, congratulating Radford and our Year 12s for our fundraising efforts.
The shave is quickly becoming a tradition for Radford students. As such, this year’s Year 12 cohort passes the baton to coming student cohorts, so we can all rally around the event and support such an important cause.
With winter setting in, everyone who shaved their head will be facing chilly mornings ahead. You’ll certainly see a few more beanies in the coming weeks.
