Worldwide Show-and-Tell
By Ms Tracey Markovic, Assistant Head of Junior School Operations
A group of five dedicated Year 4 students have worked together over the past two terms to share in conversations with other students their age from around the world.
The Round Square Worldwide Show-and-Tell was launched in March this year. Students aged 9 and 10 from Round Square schools were invited to register and be part of monthly Zoom calls where each school was given time to speak about a specific topic. Topics included ‘Introducing our schools’, ‘Traditional games in our country’ and ‘The place we live’.
Round Square schools encourage their students to develop a spirit of Internationalism: To seek out, discover and embrace the similarities and differences between cultures and nationalities in ways that promote meaningful and lasting understanding and respect.
Under this pillar, our Radford delegation worked to create a visual prompt to share with the other schools who were participating. They also worked hard writing scripts, so they were prepared when it was their turn to speak.
Students engaged with schools in Thailand, India, Bangladesh and elsewhere in Australia, learning about cultures, school, hobbies and landmarks. After each school presented their topic, there was an open invitation for questions. It was evident by the questions that students listened carefully to their peers.
Students are already looking forward to Worldwide Show-and-Tell in Semester 2.
